If you are using iMovie on your iPhone, you may encounter the “Free Up iPhone Storage” error. Even if this specific error hasn’t appeared, you might notice a decrease in your iPhone’s storage capacity. This storage usage is not just from the edited videos in iMovie but also from temporary or render files generated during video editing. These files can remain on your iPhone permanently unless you take action to remove them.
If you regularly edit videos using iMovie on your iPhone, a large portion of your iPhone’s storage can be consumed by unnecessary render files. This may result in a lack of available storage, especially during urgent situations when you need it most. So, let’s explore the technique to delete iMovie documents and data on your iPhone to free up additional storage space.
Before we proceed with deleting iMovie documents and data, it’s important to first determine whether the iMovie app is consuming your iPhone’s storage with temporary and rendered files. Let’s find out how to check this.
Open Settings on your iPhone.
Tap on General.
Under the General page, tap on iPhone Storage.
Scroll down to find iMovie and tap on it.
On the next page, you will see the details of the iMovie app, including how much storage it is using under Documents & Data. This section shows how much space is being consumed by temporary and render files created during video editing in iMovie.
If the Documents & Data section indicates that a significant amount of storage is being used, it is advisable to clear it to free up space on your iPhone.
How to Delete iMovie Documents and Data iPhone
Unlike Android, iOS does not provide an option to clear cache or data for individual apps, including iMovie. Therefore, to free up storage space, you will need to uninstall the iMovie app completely from your iPhone.
If you want to use iMovie again after uninstalling it, you can simply reinstall the app from the App Store. Upon reinstalling, the previous documents and data files will not return, as the initial uninstallation of iMovie completely removes those files, freeing up your storage space.
To clear iMovie disk space on iPhone open Settings
Scroll down the Settings Page and tap on General
Under General tap on iPhone Storage
Scroll down the iPhone Storage page and tap on iMovie
From the iMovie page tap on Delete app
When you choose to uninstall iMovie, a confirmation dialog will appear stating, “Deleting ‘iMovie’ will also delete all of its documents and data. This action cannot be undone.” To proceed, tap on Delete App.
Once the iMovie app is successfully uninstalled from your iPhone, the storage space previously occupied by its documents and data will be instantly freed up.
To reinstall iMovie Open the App Store on your iPhone.
Search for iMovie and tap Install.
Once iMovie is installed, you can start using it again.
After reinstalling, you can check the storage used by the iMovie app in your iPhone Storage settings. You will see that the storage previously occupied by iMovie’s documents and data has been successfully freed up.
